Learn to fly at the former Socialist Party Academy
Does the modern man still strive to fly high like the mythical Icarus? Or do we submit to expectations, to power and fear? The Polish Teatr Strefa Ciszy chose an extraordinary place - the former Socialist Party Academy, the stronghold of party ideology during the Socialism - to test how far the Hungarian audience can go, how far they are willing to play along and believe that it is only a game. Their performance is a provocative, but humorous take on our ideas of power, an engaging and thought-provoking experience.
Join us on a journey into the realms of our collective memory where without the direct historical references, but with plenty of room for your imagination to roam free, the relations between power and freedom will be mapped.
The performance of the Polish theatre company is in genuine dialogue with the chosen site which has been in the Socialist era, one of the symbols of the omnipotent Party power. Not only was it an important educational institution diffusing party ideology, but also a haven for leading politicians who had a swimming pool built for their exclusive use, with water coming directly from the Széchenyi baths. The atmosphere of the past is still present among these walls and we will have a chance to reflect on the changes that have since then transformed not only Hungary, but the whole Central Eastern European region.

Let's start from basics
" ‘Learning to Fly' by Strefa Ciszy shows how thin the line between a carousel tower and a prison tower can be...The story seems so basic and obvious that it's almost naive. Nevertheless, I'd encourage anybody who reckons they are free individuals living in a free country in a free world to go and see ‘Learning to fly'. I honestly warn though that this light, entertaining and witty performance can leave you terribly sad." Ewa Obrebowska-Piasecka, Gazeta Wyborcza
